WHAT IS XUL SCHOOL?
Glaxstar are sharing their unique experience of writing professional add-ons for Firefox in an attempt to help more people innovate upon Firefox.
The tutorial book gets you started after which you'll be ready to take up to eight individual, one-to-one tutored course exercises. Each course exercise can be purchased separately and completed in your own time & pace.
We recommend you first buy the book & work through the tutorials. When you successfully complete the tutorials yourself, you'll be ready to enroll on your first tutored course exercise!
If you are already experienced in writing add-ons you may want to dive right in and enroll in the first tutored exercise at which point you'll get the book as a reference guide. But your tutor will expect you to know your basics ;)
THE BOOK
The XUL School is book in PDF download format will be $19. We are still working out the pricing for the dead tree version. There will be some content from the book published for free online so you can get a feel for the quality of the information before you decide to buy it.
Years of experience from Glaxstar's full time professional Add-on Engineers are poured into this book, its a great resource for beginners and experienced developers alike. We are talking around 95 A4 sized pages with 12 point text and screen shots packed with the very latest information enabling you to take advantage of all the new features and APIs in Firefox 3.
There is much to learn from this book on how to write industrial strength Add-on code while ensuring you remain a good citizen to the Firefox Add-on developer community. You don't have to enroll on a course you can just buy the book and take it from there.
TUTORED COURSE EXERCISES
Designed with full time developers in mind who want to produce industrial strength Firefox Add-ons for web services/products. We are finalizing pricing which will be announced on launch day.
A course has been designed with eight exercises for developers who have a base skill set capable completing the XUL School book tutorials under their own steam.
Each course exercise may be purchased separately, the price includes fair use, unrestricted access to your own personal tutor via direct email. Tutora at this time are full time Glaxstar engineers, who will review your work, feedback suggestions or improvements and assist you through each exercise level, step by step.
Should you choose to successfully complete all eight exercises, your personal tutor will award you official XUL School certification, comprising a unique id seal with link to a XUL School hosted personal certification page, plus a listing in the XUL School accredited Add-on developer directory complete with a personal profile and links to your website/blog.
